Jonah Lorsung dancy beats with those silky voice loops you come to expect from Yellow Ostrich early days. A great listen through and through. Favorite track: Getting Lost/Staying Lost.

Flower Lynx I auditioned for a musical by singing Fog and got the lead so you know, gotta be some pretty excellent music right here. Favorite track: Fog.

about

You might have heard about Alex Schaaf when his first LP, The Mistress, came out last Fall. The song WHALE quickly made its way to dozens of best-of-the-year song lists. La Blogothèque/Invisible Children and Big Ugly Yellow Couch were eager to invite him to do some sessions and showcase his exquisite soundforging; Afternoon Records quickly put their hands on The Mistress and is releasing the album on vinyl next week. Countless bloggers post about Yellow Ostrich on a daily basis. A full US+Canada tour will follow. 2011 will be Alex's and his Yellow Ostrich's (now with two added members: the drummer Michael Tapper, ex-We Are Scientists, still plays on Fool's Gold and Bishop Allen, and Jon Natchez, ex-Beirut/Bishop Allen, who plays bass and horns) year, and that's for granted.

Before all that buzz, though, Alex released a series of EPs on the summer of 2010. Fade Cave is one of them. Using only his voice and a drum machine, Yellow Ostrich managed to record an EP that doesn't pale in comparison to his praised follow up LP; some of his finest work yet, from the haunting Fog to the quasi-masterpiece Getting Lost/Staying Lost, is contained on this lovely C30 cassette, available on black (50 copies) and white (more 50). Those will sell like hot buns, so be quick!

Stream and buy Fade Cave here, download it from Alex's bandcamp. You should donate him some bucks in case you don't want the cassette. You should.
